Artist Statement
My work seeks to create a contemplative space, inviting the viewer to connect with nature in its most raw and untouched form. Through my paintings, I aim to capture moments of beauty and tranquility found in distant mountain ranges, where human presence is intentionally excluded.
Growing up in Malaysia, a country near the equator, I was drawn to landscapes I had only seen in books or on screen. Snow-capped mountains were a fantasy, something far from my everyday reality. My first encounter with snowy peaks came during family ski trips to Japan, where Mt. Yotei, with its gentle curves, became a symbol of happiness. But it was unlike the jagged mountain ranges I had long imagined from afar. That contrast stayed with me and fueled my obsession with the Alps when I finally saw them in person.
I work primarily with oil paints, drawn to their rich history and forgiving nature. The process of layering and reworking the paint mirrors the slow, natural formation of mountains over time.
I aim to share the awe I felt in nature, its pure fascination. Hoping to capture and protect this beauty, to convey the meditative calm it inspires. Or perhaps painting is merely my excuse for more landscape encounters.
